Hello From Florida

Just wanted to drop a line and let everyone know that I am doing fine. Thanks to everyone that has emailed me. Your emails are so encouraging and it is great to here from my friends "back home".

So many people keep asking me why I left the radio station after almost ten years. It is amazing the different reasons that I hear and I'm 1100 miles away. I can only imagine what is being said at ground zero.

The reason why I left is not important. What is important is the here and now. Now is the time to examine our hearts and find out, truthfully, where we stand before a loving, awesome God. Now is the time to reflect back on His mercy, His grace and realize that we need to reach out to people in the Spirit of that Love. Now is the time to get back to the Heart of Christ, love for God, love for your neighbor.

Sometimes I think we as a Christian people can get caught up in the cares of the world. It's not about money. Its not about having a red Corvette, a Harley and a Range Rover. Christ told us that if we had two cloaks and someone was cold we should give them one. How much greater the command when we have two cars, a motorcylce, a boat, two homes, ect and there are people sitting in our churches that have termination notices for electric. Where is the heart of Christ then? No - Christ doesn't want us poor - He wants us to Love one another, to take care of one another.

And for the record, I don't see in the Bible where Jesus was a rich man. That's just unscriptural and comes from a carnal mind. Jesus could have called riches into His life just as He could have turned the stones to bread but He didn't.

The election for President is coming in less then two months. Who will you vote for and why? Forget what the opinion makers from both sides are saying - what is God telling you? God speaks to the individual heart. It is your heart that you are responsible for. What is he telling you? You need to know that before you go out to vote.

These are just some of the things that are on my mind as I sit in a thatched roof cabana by the ocean. It is beautiful here. 80 degrees and sunny, flowers blooming and the ocean is blue.

Once again, Thanks for all of the emails and letters. I appreciate hearing from you! Perhaps I will get into why I left the radio station in a future post.

Well I made it to my new home and it is beautiful. I live in Deerfield Beach which is about 30 miles north of Miami. I am two miles from the beach. There are palm trees in my front yard. The sky is blue, the neighbors are wonderful and I am excited to be here.

Thanks to everyone that send such encouraging emails and replies to the blog. I am going to miss the wonderful partners of He's Alive Radio.

I will post some pictures as soon as I find my camera - I know its in one of the boxes!

Thank You For The Memories

Wow! Its hard for me to imagine not driving up the mountain every morning to host the Morning Show but that is about to happen. I'm Florida bound! My last day on the air will be Sunday August 30th.

Its hard to imagine that nine years have gone by so quickly! Its been an interesting nine years. I started out as the host of the Mid-Day show playing Praise and Worship music. That was fine, I was familiar with that style of music.

But then Monte Palmer informed me that I was going to take over the Morning Show and start playing Southern Gospel music I was flabbergasted! I knew nothing about SG music and didn't really like it. I had a rough time those first few months adjusting to the names and sounds of SG music. It was rough!

A funny thing happened after a few months. I found myself enjoying some of the music. The Bishops, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Booth Brothers, McKameys.. it wasn't that bad after all. Soon I began enjoying a variety of artists. I never could enjoy the twangy, whiney SG music that is heard on some SG stations and when I had a chance I would never play it - sorry if you like that style but ehhhh!

I remember the big worry over Y2K. I was just getting ready to come off the air when USA Network news announced that a plane had struck the World Trade Center. I remember praying and having people call back in as God had answered their prayers - that's priceless.

Its a huge move and I don't have a job lined up as I type this but the situation dictates that I move. Please keep me in your prayers. I will keep you informed of what has become of me on this blog. (The name will probably change but...)

Thank you for all of your encouragement and support over the years. I'm going to miss this ministry and you.

Sheri Easter Update - Good News!!

Here is an update on Sheri Easter. It comes from Chuck Peter's Southern Gospel News........

SHERI EASTER UPDATE

Yesterday we reported that Sheri Easter's surgery, on Tuesday (07/08/08).. went well. Now additional information indicates that the mastectomy surgery has revealed that the lymph nodes are clear and cancer-free. A news item at www.gaither.com also says doctors were pleased with how the surgery went and.. are optimistic about her prognosis.

According to Jeff & Sheri Easter's booking agent.. while Sheri recovers at home,.. Jeff, with the assistance of Madison Easter and Melissa White, who traveled with the family for three years, is headed off to Shipshewana, Ind., and Hopkins, Mich., to fulfill the groups dates.

Friends and family are asking that for continued prayers as Sheri begins her recovery. Jeff and Sheri thank everyone who has supported them in prayer and with their "well wishes".

Sheri Easter Needs Your Prayers

I found this in my inbox this morning and wanted to pass it along. I am encouraging everyone to be praying for Sheri. I would also encourage you to send a card and let her know that you are praying for her. The address to send your cards is at the bottom of the post.

In addition to being one of the finest singers in gospel music, Sheri Easter is also a mother and wife. Please keep her in prayer. The post comes from Chuck Peter's SG News.....

Jeff and Sheri Easter's booking agent told reporters that Sheri's surgery, Tuesday (07/08/08).. went well. A BSA Agency press release says: "Sheri came through the surgery and her Doctors were pleased the surgery was performed without any complications." The agency says Jeff Easter called from the hospital when Sheri was being taken from recovery to her private room.

Sheri Easter recently received news that she has breast cancer. Sources say the mastectomy surgery test results should reveal the extent of the cancer's presence in her body. Friends and family are asking that you pray the cancer is not in the lymph nodes.. and also for continued prayers as Sheri begins her recovery. Jeff and Sheri thank everyone who has supported them in prayer and with their "well wishes".

Mark Bishop on New Music Monday

You do not want to miss New Music Monday on June 23rd. This week we are going to take a listen to the brand new CD from Mark Bishop, "The Fields of Love". In addition to listening to this great CD, I will be airing an interview that I did with Mark last week. It is going to be one of the best shows you will hear all year!

Mark Bishop's new CD, "The Fields of Love" is a ground breaking CD in that it is a Southern Gospel concept album. It tells a story with each song serving as a kind of "chapter" in the story. Mark describes it as a "Musical Journey of Faith in the Heartland". It is about a man's struggle to regain faith.

I have to tell you that the first time that I listened to "The Fields of Love" I got a little teary eyed. It is a very moving story and the songs are the best that Mark has ever written.

McKameys On new Music Monday

Today on New Music Monday we are taking a listen to the brand new CD from the McKameys called, "Something More". The CD features 12 brand new songs from one of Southern Gospel Music's most beloved groups.

The CD showcases the McKameys at their best. The song selection and the delivery are what you would expect from the McKameys - no surprises, just classic McKameys.

One of my favorite songs on the "Something More" CD is entitled, "I Believe". This wonderful Southern Gospel song was written by Sandy Blythe and is based on Mark 9:24. The lyrics begin, "He cried, Lord I believe but help mine unbelief and by Your mighty hand a miracle he then received. Like that story long ago, I'm calling out to you, and humbly I confess that my faith has grown weary too."

We have all reached this point at some time in our walk with Christ. A point where the enemy of our souls whispers in our ears and our faith grows week. The chorus of the song brings hope. "I believe, but Lord help thou my unbelief, it's sweet to trust you Lord, but I have never walked this road before. So, hold my trembling hand, for I'm trying hard to understand, overlook the doubt in me, for I really do believe". The sincere singing style of the McKameys really brings this song home. The McKameys open their hearts and share with you the truth that God has given them. It's a great song.

A second song on the McKamey's New CD, "Something More" that stuck with me after the first listen was a song called, "Between Twelve and Thirty-Three". This song, written by Rusty Golden, Jerry Salley, and Jim McBride. This song is based on Luke 2:3-7 and John 19: 16-30. It is a simple song that speaks of the life of Christ that will stick with you.

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver - Champs!

Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver have made it to the top. They are only the second group to retire as King of the Mountain Champions. The first group was the Ball Brothers with "Mercy Said No."

"Help Is On The Way" won for ten weeks and defeated songs from The Booth Brothers, The Kingsmen, Triumphant Quartet, Mark Bishop, The Browns, The Shepherds and others.

This Friday we will have two new songs to listen to. The first song is by Mitchel Jon, formerly of Three Bridges. The song is entitled, "Jesus Gave Me Water".

The second song is by Naomi and the Segos and is entitled, "99 1/2".

King of the Mountain starts at 7:20. Don't miss it! I'll be giving away a copy of the Tally Trio CD, "Stages" which has some great music on it including the number one song, "The Broken Ones".

My favorite Psalm

Someone asked me if I had a favorite Psalm. I had to think about that for a moment. I love the Psalms. They give me such encouragement. I thought about Psalm 103 where David writes:

"Praise the Lord oh my soul, and forget not all His benefits,

Who forgives all you sins and heals all your diseases.

who redeems your life from the pit

and crowns you with love and compassion,

Who satisfies your desires with good things

so that your youth is renewed like the eagles"

THAT is awesome! Forget not His benefits. His benefits....wow...

Then I think of Psalm 108 where in verse 12 it says:

"Give us aid against the enemy,

for the help of man is worthless.

With God we will gain the victory,

and He will trample down our enemies".

Such a powerful Psalm!

There are so many wonderful Psalms but I think that Psalm 107 is my favorite. It is such a Psalm of hope and promise. I like the entire psalm that tells of how God rescues His people - "He sent forth His Word and healed them. He rescued them from the grave." - that's a power verse!

I love that after every action of God to rescue His people we are admonished to "give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men"

His unfailing love, unfailing love and wonderful deeds for men! He is the same yesterday, today and forever! His Love is still unfailing and He is still doing wonderful deeds for men! He is a miracle working, loving God! He is for us and not against us! Expect "wonderful deeds" from a God that loves you "unfailingly".

Yeah - I get excited when I read Psalm 107. It's my favorite Psalm. What's yours?

He's Alive Radio's New Mascot

Move over Bogart - we've got a new mascot here at He's Alive Radio. On Friday May 15, the first Robin egg hatched. I've been talking about the eggs on the Morning Show and wanted to share some pictures with you.

The nest was built on the back of a satellite dish right next to the office door. It is basically straw and mud with a strip of plastic. There is a really nice view of the nest from the porch so all of us have been watching the eggs.

The umbrella? That's June's contribution to the nest. June didn't want the birds to get wet so she put the umbrella up - momma bird seems to like it!

I found this interesting free site when I was surfing the web for top stories. It is about the WorldWide Telescope. This is a free download that is similar to GoogleEarth but deals with astronomy.

Check out this site for more info and some great videos. I haven't tried it on my home computer and can't wait to do so. It looks like a great learning tool for home schoolers.

Dottie Rambo, A Southern Gospel Lady Goes Home

It was just after I got into the studio this morning. I had updated the weather and was into the first set of Southern Gospel songs. I was checking my email to find out what was new in the world of Southern Gospel music so that I could pass it along.

When I opened up my first email account I noticed that several of the emails contained the name Dottie Rambo. One was from Libbi Stufle of the Perrys, another from The SingingNews, another from Paul Heil. I opened Libby's email and was stunned. This is her email...

Wow, what a day this has been! When I went to bed this morning at 5:34pm after sitting up with Tracy while driving the bus to get home in time for church this morning,
I had no idea that I would wake up to the sounds of my phone beeping that I had a text message with the message.....Dottie was killed in a bus wreck this morning.
I had to look at my phone twice to make sure I was reading it right. I immediately woke Tracy up and he said please make sure this is right, I just can't believe it. Well,
it was right and true.

Here's the police report from the Missouri State Police:
At 2:19 a.m.,Missouri State Troopers responded to the accident that took place on I-44, two miles east of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. According to the Troopers' report, the 1997 Prevost Dottie was traveling aboard ran off the roadway, struck the guard rail and an embankment. Dottie was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County (Mo.) Coroner Don Lakin at 4:20 a.m.Aboard the bus were Dottie's product manager Christopher Barnes, Larry & Judy Ferguson, their children Pierce and Christian, and driver Ronnie Meadows.

From reports Larry Ferguson (Dottie's Manager) is in critical condition along with Ronnie Meadows (the driver) and Chris Barnes.

I grew up in the era when the Rambos were as we always said it "Big Time!" I remember the first time I heard her sing, I was blown away because I had never
heard a woman sing that low and pretty. Her voice was so full and big. Not only could she sing and write, she was a very beautiful LADY. She dressed and
acted like a lady. I just thought she was the most elegant lady I had ever seen and even years later, she still held that elegance and charm.

When the Perrys started singing in 1970 we sang just about every Rambo's song we could learn. I have several favorites but these are the ones that I always
even today still find myself listening to when I listen to the Rambos:

Gosh, I could just go on forever!! I don't think the lady ever wrote a bad song. Dottie just had a way of painting a picture with words. You can just close your
eyes and you are there, standing in the middle of the song. You never had to second guess what the song was trying to say.

For the past two years I have called Dottie on Mother's Day and we would talk about 2 hours at a time. We would talk a little, cry a little, but mostly we would
do more laughing than anything. She was one of the funniest ladies I have ever met. The last couple of times we worked with her, we would go back and
forth on stage about Men and how hard they are to live with sometimes. She would just laugh that little laugh she had and always got the last word in!
She was so witty. Today, I miss talking to my friend, but I just know that she is in a far, far better place than this place. She has met face to face the one she tried to write about all of her life, She's sheltered in the Arms of God alright, SHE IS THERE!!!!! As much as one side of my heart is breaking right now, the other side is turning flips because she's HOME with her Lord and Master!!

Dottie, I will forever miss your presence in the world, but I know it won't be long, until we'll ALL BE HOME!!

Does Bluegrass Belong On Southern Gospel Radio?

Today on New Music Monday I'm featuring a CD from The Primitive Quartet entitled, "Thank You For The Roses". The Primitive Quartet has been traveling and performing together for many years. They have a huge following coast to coast. Yet I have very seldom aired their music on The Morning Show. Why?

Why? Because they are predominantly a bluegrass group. It was my belief that they didn't quite fit the format. Lately I've come to reevaluate my position on this.

One of the reasons I have begun to think that maybe, perhaps, there is room for groups like the Primitive Quartet on the Morning Show is the way that you have embraced Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Doyle's latest song "Help Is On The Way" is a seven time winner on King of the Mountain. It's still going strong after knocking off the Kingsmen last week. It's a very good song by one of the legends in Bluegrass music.

The Isaacs have always had a home on the He's Alive Radio Network - they are Bluegrass. Perhaps they made the grade because of their connection with the Bill Gaither Homecoming Tour and Series? I don't know. I do know that I really enjoy their music.

We have a treat to look forward to today on New Music Monday - The latest CD from Voices Won, "Easier To Live". Voices Won is a group that has been on the verge of having major success for a few years now and this CD may put them over the top.

The mood of the CD is up-lifting with most songs of a medium to up tempo. Some of my favorites include, "Sweetest Sound", "Happy", He Lived To Love The Lord" and "Easier To Live".

New Austins Bridge Song

Dove Award nominees, Austins Bridge, have released a new song to radio. The song, "History Turned The Page", was written by Gerald Crabb. Be listening throughout the week for this song and then cast your vote if you think it is going to be a "Hit" or a "Miss"

Austins Bridge is Mike Kofahl, Justin Rivers (formerly with the Crabb Family), and Jason Baird. Austins Bridge was formed in early 2006. The name refers to Austin, Texas, where Mike and Jason were living when the group formed. Justin comments that “the bridge part comes from our desire to bridge generational gaps between the young and the old and the new. To spread this message to a vast audience and not just stick it in a box. So we are just trying to do some things outside the box”.

Five Finger Prayer Guide

I'm not quite sure how emailed me this "Five Finger Prayer Guide" but I think it is a wonderful prayer guide and I'd like to pass it on. The guide mentions that as we look at our hands we can use our fingers to remind us and guide us in our prayers.

As you look at your hand look first at your thumb. It is the nearest to you and reminds us to pray for those that God has placed closest to us. Our family, friends, and loved ones. They are the easiest to remember. As C. S. Lewis said, praying for these is a "Sweet duty".

The next finger is the pointing finger. It reminds us to pray for those who teach, instruct and heal, This includes our teaches, doctors and ministers. They need our support and God's wisdom and guidance as they point others in the right direction.

The next finger is the tallest finger and reminds us to pray for those in authority over us. Pray for our leaders. Pray for those in the government, business and industry that shape our nation, the world and public opinion. They need God's guidance.

The next finger is our ring finger. It is the weakest finger. It reminds us to pray for those that are weak, troubled or in pain. They need our prayers. We can not pray to much for them.

The last finger is our little finger, the smallest finger of all. This is how we should place our self in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you". Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you pray for the other groups that your fingers remind you to pray for, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for your self more effectively.

WV Mountaineers Support Evan Miller

I can across this story on the internet and wanted to pass it along.The West Virginia Mountaineers are in the midst of a great season and yet they have taken time out to pray for this boy and offer him encouragement. That's wonderful!!

Evan Miller is a fifteen year old young man that was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in July of 2006 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments at a Pittsburgh hospital. E

Evan is a huge Mountaineer fan and during the Mountaineer's game against Mississippi the team work blue and gold wristbands inscribed with the words "For Evan's Sake". They did this to encourage this young man in his battle with cancer.

Several of the team members offered Evan encouragement. WVU wide-receiver Dorrell Jalloh encouraged Evan to seek God. "I would just tell Evan to stay strong and to keep on praying. Build a relationship with God, because God can get you through anything no matter what adversity or how big the task. God can get you through it."

The idea of the wrist band came during an October fund raiser. You can send cards to Evan at:

New Music Monday - Brian Free and Assurance

This week on New Music Monday (October 29th) I'll be featuring the new CD from one of my favorite quartet's, Brian Free and Assurance. The Cd is called "Real Faith" and it is loaded with ten tremendous songs.

The first single released to Southern Gospel radio is entitled, "Praying Man". This song will definitely get you moving on a cool autumn day. This song was written by legendary song writer Ronnie Hinson. I found this short video clip on youtube of Brian Free and Assurance singing this song. I hope that you enjoy it.

The Vietnam Moving Wall in Area

58,253. This is the number of names engraved on "the Wall". This is the number of brave men and women that gave their lives in the service of our country in Vietnam. The Moving Wall - a half sized replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC is making a stop in California Pennsylvania. The memorial is being displayed at the California University of Pennsylvania's Roadman Park through Monday October 22. It will be open around the clock and close at 4pm Monday.

As we reflect back on these heroes we need to remember those that are serving this country right now. If you would like to encourage those that are in combat today write them a letter. If you know someone that is serving in Iraq or Afghanistan write to them. Ask you pastor if anyone from your congregation is serving and write to them. If you can't find anyone to write to check out these two organizations:
www.mysoldier.com or www.soldiersangel.org Your encouragement will make someone's day.

When writing a letter try to write it in pen. A hand written letter will mean so much more than a typed letter. The other tip is to keep the letter up beat and positive. Don't write about how rough your day was, the soldier has enough concerns of his/her own. Instead tell they about something funny that happened to you or interesting things that are going on in your life and your community. The soldier may not relate 100% to what you are writing but your letter will make their day.

TK and McRea on New Music Monday

It is going to be a great show on Monday October 22 as we take a listen to the new CD from TK and McRea, "When He Said Live". This is the debut project from the group which is made up of Annie McRea, formerly of the McReas, Troy and Katy Peach, formerly of First Love, and Amanda Till.

The debut single, "When He Said Live" has hovered near the top of the Singing News Top 80 chart for several months and is fantastic. The CD features songs written by Annie McRea who is one of my favorite song writers. The CD has a modern Southern Gospel sound to it with a country flare. It is wonderful and you don't want to miss it.

King of the Mountain

I've been busy getting ready for the Fall Life Drive so I haven't had a chance to post info on the King of the Mountain until today. Last week saw the Whisnants', "Light of the Lamb" defeat the first song from The Crabb Revival, "You Amaze Me" to retain the title. The week before the Whisnants beat out Karen Peck and New River's "Hey" to become champs.

This coming Friday, Oct 19, will be a good battle on the program. The champion will be challenged by a new song from Mark Bishop entitled, "Mean, Mean People". It's going to be interesting and you won't want to miss it. It starts at 7:20am.

Sometimes I just have to wonder.....The church shooting that occurred last week out west when a gunman burst into a church during Sunday morning service and killed several people - why didn't the media label that a "hate crime"? What shooting you may ask? I guess you would know if the gunman had been the pastors disgruntled wife...secular media coverage- bah humbug!

And what's up with this NFL quarter back Michael Vick dog fighting thing? It's horrible and hard to understand why someone with his potential would do such a thing. If he is guilty he deserves what he gets. It looks like he is going to plea bargain and get a year in jail and not be able to play football this year which is kind of odd when another NFL player was involved in murder a few years back and got to play and serve their time in the off season. What's up with that.

Speaking of football - Steelers to the Super Bowl this year! Okay I might be overzealous but they are looking good in preseason. The new coach and a health team could go a long way. (Special note----anyone that has Steeler tickets that they want to give away to a rabid fan to use please keep me in mind!)

Crabb Family on New Music Monday

Crossway Reigns Three Weeks As King of The Mountain

Crossway made it three weeks in a row this morning as they received twice as many votes as Bekki Smith on King of The Mountain. "Took It All Away", written by Annie McRae, defeated "Not Just A Scar" by Bekki Smith.

King of The Mountain Update

Make it two weeks in a row for Crossway as they successfully defended their title as "King of the Mountain" today against the challenger - Brian Free and Assurance.

Crossway's latest single, "Took It All Away" from their soon to be released A Beautiful Thing album became King of the Mountain last week when it defeated the reigning champion, Jimmy Dooley, in the final minute of voting.

Today Crossway defeated the new song from Brian Free and Assurance entitled, "Praying Man" from the upcoming Real Faith release.

Crabb Family Concert - Recap and Photos

This Friday on the King of The Mountain the champion, Jimmy Dooley, will be challenged by a new song from Crossway. Jimmy Dooley makes his third appearance on the program with his song, "He'd Move Heaven and Earth". There is a new website that is very interesting. It's called Squidoo and contains information about just about everything. Its a fun site to browse. I like the fact that sites are rated so that you won't happen upon inappropriate things by chance. I started a "lens", which is what they call their pages, about Southern Gospel music. Jimmy Dooley Triumphs Over Greenes

Today we had the rare situation of two challengers. Last week we retired The Ball Brothers, "Mercy Said No", as King of The Mountain Champion after winning for ten weeks.

Today we crowned a new champion, Jimmy Dooley. His song, "He'd Move Heaven and Earth" beat out the latest from the Greenes, "God Is a Good God" by a 2:1 margin.

Jimmy Dooley has the wildest looking hair in all of Southern Gospel music (barring Vestal Goodman's B-52 beehives of the late 60's- that's priceless)He is an accomplished songwriter for Crossroads music. He wrote the title track for Ivan Parker's latest album,"That Was Then, This IS Now" as well as the Ivan Parker hit, "The Grace That I'm Under".

Three Bridges to Disband

It's a sad day in Southern Gospel Music land. First the Florida Boys announced that they are retiring and now it seems to be offical - Three Bridges is disbanding. It appears that Mitch Kenitzer and Dave McVay have resigned from Three Bridges.

I first heard of this last week but was told that there was still hope of a mending of ways but alas it looks like that is not to be. It's a shame when a group that has just hit its stride so to speak, implodes. Inside sources site artistic differences as the main reason for the break up.

Three Bridges recent song "A Little Song Comin On" went to number one on the Singing News charts. This was there second number one song with "In The Sky" being their first.

Ivan Parker Interview

I have to say I am excited about the Ivan Parker interview that is scheduled to be aired tomorrow on the Morning Show. Ivan is always fun to talk to and this time was no different. Ivan talks about the music on his new Southern Gospel album, "That Was Then This Is Now". He gives insight into the music on this CD.

I actually caught Ivan off gaurd somewhat with one question about how he resists temptation on the road. Ivan,(like myself LOL), is a handsome man that is away from home for a large part of the year so I thought that I would ask him how he stays pure. His answer is something that all men, and women, can benefit from hearing.

Ivan Parker also discusses being the first solo act to be invited to sing on the main stage at the National Quartet Convention. He reflects on the loss of his long time friend Anthony Burger and more.

Gas Prices

Well I just paid over $3.00 a gallon for gas. I knew the price increase was coming. As surely as the ache in your joints lets you know that a storm is coming, a holiday is an indication of a price hike at the pump. Memeorial day is right around the corner so the prices are edging up. I would say that we can expect to pay about $3.25 by the holiday weekend. Then expect a very slight drop to about $3.15 until June 25th then prices will climb again to around $3.45 by the Fourth of July. They will fall slightly and then spike again around August 28th in preparation for Labor day.

The good news is if you own stock in oil companies expect record breaking profits again this year.

American Idol

There is no contest. Melinda is hands down the best singer. No contest. Unfortunately she lacks charisma. Fortunately for Melinda, all of the contestants lack charisma, except perhaps Jordin. Who is going home tonight? I think it is going to be close but Blake heads home. Jordin's cuteness factor wins out over Blake's unique style.

Long term view...Jordin goes on to sell more records than Melinda and Blake combined even though she doesn't win the title. She's only 17 and is soooo talented.

Inspirations, "If You Only Knew"

Once in a while I get to play a song that seems to touch hearts at a deep level. All of the music I play does this to some extent, but some songs just go one step further. The latest song from the Inspirations, "If You Only Knew" is such a song.

The first time that I played this a friend that has a hospice ministry called and said that it was a perfect song for him. Others have called with similar remarks.

Most bookstores do not stock the Inspirations. The link below will help you out.

It's going to be an exciting day on Wednesday as we take a sneak peak
look at the Austins Bridge debut CD entitled,"Austins Bridge". We will
also be talking with Austins Bridge to get the scoop as to who they are and were they came from.

Austins Bridge is the new trio that has set the Southern Gospel world a buzz.
These three young men seemed to appear from no where. Their self
entitled debut single is a mixture of Southern Gospel, Christian
Country and Bluegrass music that fans of all ages will appreciate.

Bridge" and "Oasis", he has been used of God to touch many lives.

To Much Hype For The Killers

I don't know about you but I've had my fill of pictures, video and
audio of the demonic psycho that killed all of the students in VA.
Don't get me wrong, I grieve for the victims and their families. It is
a tragic event. What I object to is the media's overkill on the man
that did it.

Today marks the anniversary of the tragedy at
Columbine. The VA killer alluded to these killers as martyrs. I think
that this shows a direct connection between mass media hype and the
killings. I believe that the VA killer released he had crossed the line
after his first two murders then did his media kit, mailed it out and
went down in a manner that would assure him of mass coverage in the
media. I'm sure he realized that his life was effectively over - he had
murdered and would face life in prison or the death penalty. He chose
to go out like the nuts in Colorado. And the media went along with it.

I believe that the public needs to know what happened,
but common sense would dictate not dwelling on the killer. Keep the
focus on the real news: the many lives that have been lost and the
families that are facing a different reality because a deranged kid
killed their loved ones.

I enjoy reading and posting on blogs that relate to Christian Music. On
one blog the discussion turned to Country music. A writer was upset
about big Country music artists that sing about,"cheatin',drinkin' and womanizin'"
and then do a "Gospel" album. The writer thought that it was wrong to
play these songs on Christian radio. He thought that even though they
were Christian songs, the artist's other work was far fromexemplifying Christian principles.

Another
posted a follow up remark stating that we shouldn't judge the person's
life but only the music. He said that half of the church is like this;
"singing songs of sin six days a week, and then lifting their hands and
praising God on the seventh".

New Southern Gospel Music on He's Alive Radio

There have been several wonderful new Southern Gospel music songs
released in the past two weeks that are destined to top the charts. One
of my favorite song writers, Mark Bishop, has released the first single
form his new project, "Abundant Sunshine". The first single is called,
"Put Wings Upon Your Problem". It is an excellent song that is already
getting requests.

Other songs that will bless your day include, "Mad Mary" by the Jody Brown
Indian Family. This song was featured on Friday's "King of The
Mountain" where it went up against the first single fromTK & McRae. It has a contemporary sound and the message hits home.

Another wonderful song is by the Inspirations and is entitled, "If You Only
Knew". The first time that I played this song a friend of the Morning
Show that does hospice
ministry called and said that this song will move a lot of hearts. He is right (and by the way Tom, congratulations on your ordination!).

Someone, whom will remain nameless, that hosts "Worship 180", has brought it to my attention that the phrase that I use before Prayer Time to encourage people to pray with me is grammatically incorrect.

Before "Prayer Time" I usually say something like, "Let's pray together, you, I and the Prayer Partners". I was informed that it should be, "You, me and the Prayer Partners". After some debate and a poll of the staff we decided to ask you, our faithful listeners, which is correct. So......

Wow it has been to long since I have been able to post to the Morning Show blog but I'm back! First - A BIG THANKS!!!! to all who called during the Spring Life Drive to pledge their support to He's Alive Radio. Without you, our faithful partners, we would not be here. Thank You!!!

I have to tell you that I am excited about all of the new music that has come out lately. New music from new groups such as "TK & McRae" and "The Mike and Kelly Bowling Group" are going to be some of the most powerful songs that you will hear this year.

We also got a sneak peak at a new sonmg from the Freemans, "I Need a Drink" on the Tuesday "Hit or Miss" program. You voted it as a hit by a huge margin. It's a great song.

We also took a look at Ernie Hass & Signature Sound's CD, "Get Away Jordan" during Wednesday's "Sneak Peak" program. Tomorrow we will check out the new Kingdom Heir's CD, "True To The Call" - it is wonderful!!

Roger Bennett Goes Home To Glory

One of Southern Gospel's most beloved artists has passed away. Legacy Five pianist Roger Bennett died Saturday morning (03/17/07), around 8:30. as a result of complications following a long battle with leukemia. He died peacefully at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Bennett was 48 years old.

Debbie Bennett wrote in Roger's on line journal: "Home Free, Oh I've got a feeling, At the ultimate healing, we will be home free!" One of Roger's favorite songs to sing, and now he knows the whole truth about it.

Debbie says: "It has, naturally, been a very hard couple of days for those of us left behind. However, I am overwhelmed by the grace God has poured out on me. I feel a multitude of emotions simultaneously: grief, heartache, and sadness, surely, but also an immeasusrable portion of comfort and peace which I can't explain any other way but God's grace." Roger Bennett is survived by his wife Debbie, two children.. Chelsea and Jordan,.. and his father Doug. Reports indicate that the family's preliminary plans are to have a celebration service and burial in Tennessee, and a later memorial service in Strawberry, AR., Roger's hometown.

Roger is well known from his years as the pianist for the Cathedral Quartet. After the Cathedrals retirement in 1999, Roger, along with fellow Cathedrals member, Scott Fowler, formed a brand new quartet, Legacy Five. Roger is my best friend, and I will miss him terribly; but I am glad he is finally free from the prison of disease, stated Scott.

Roger exemplified true Christianity, true musicianship and true leadership in his time here. We will miss our dear friend, and we look forward to the time when we will all be together again in Eternity, said Ed Leonard, President of Daywind Music Group.

Susan Whisnant Solo Project

I just finished listening to the new Susan Whisnant CD entitled, " For The Life of Me" and it is excellent. This is Susan Whisnant's first solo release and it doesn't disappoint.

The eleven songs on this project showcase Susan's vocal skills.The sound is a slight departure from the usual Whisnanst sound. Susan explained that this CD was something that she has wanted to do for years. Susan ministers at several women's conferences throughout the year, and this project showcases the type of music that she sings during her the conferences.

Some of the stand out songs for me include, "Love Them Like Jesus". This song, written by Mark Hall & Bernie Herms, speaks to situations that we all find ourselves in as we minister the gospel. Susan hits this song out of the park.

Other stand out songs include, "Church Across The Street", "Apart From You" and "Create In Me (Psalm 51:10)".

Susan Whisnant's, "For The Life Of Me" covers alot of territory sound wise, from progressive southern gospel to inspirational, to worship. Her voice is right at home in all of these genres. It is a very good CD. For more infor you can visit www.whisnants.com

King of The Mountain: Sharon Kay King -vs- Austins Bridge

This is going to be a good battle on King of the Mountain this week. Sharon Kay King will be defending her title for the sixth week as she takes on newcomers Austins Bridge. The program starts about 7:20 as we listen to both songs then open the phone lines up for you to vote on your favorite song. We'll give away some music and have a great time so make sure you tune in.

Sharon Kay King's song, "You Never Gave Up On Me" has taken on some very good songs by popular artists and has come out on top. She defeated the Whisnants, Jim Mahalick, The Southern Brothers and others. It is a wonderful song that encourages.

I was at the grocery store yesterday and I have to admit that it was BN (before nap), so I might have been a little "sensitive". But there was a young man that just irked me. Here's what happened....

I
had to go back to the store because the night before I went shopping
and was to buy curry powder for a meal that Stacey was making. Some how
I managed to by cumin instead of curry powder (it was a "cumin" error)
so I had to go to the store on my way home from the station.

Anyway,
I was walking past the snack aisle and noticed a young man in his mid
20's grab a bag of chips from the shelf, open it and start eating them.
They weren't paid for, yet he was eating them as he went through the
store filling up his cart. This just seemed wrong.

I'm sure that
he paid for them but it just rubbed me the wrong way to see someone do
this. Was I being to sensitive? Was it any of my business? Is this
indicative of how society has changed over the years? I don't remember
seeing this type of behavior ten years ago yet I do see it rather
frequently now.

American Idol, Sharon Kay King, Spring Fever and more

American Idol
This week's America showed how it votes for musical talent - with it's eyes! How else can you explain why Antonella and Sanjaya are still in the show while more talented singers have been voted off? We are a visual nation. Speaking of visual nation - what's up with the Victoria Secret commercials? Somethings are better left as a secret. I must be old but I remember when those kind of commercials were never on TV. My seven year old daughter likes to blurt out, "Shield your eyes" and then runs over and put her hand over my eyes when those commercials come on. The ladies are still dominating. Top picks: Lakisha (Best voice but the eyes of America will keep her from being top 2), Melinda, Phil and Blake.

SHARON KAY KING
Wow. This lady is ripping it up on King of The Mountain. Her song, "You Never Gave Up On Me", is our champion song for the fifth week in a row. In a narrow victory she beat out the new release from Jim Mahalick, "New Hope Road". Will she be the first to be retired as King of the Mountain Champion with ten straight wins?

WHAT'S UP WITH THE STEELERS?
The Steelers released Joey Porter today. A great player, a team leader....To much for the new coach to contend with? Part of retooling the team ? A big surprise.

GENERAL RELIEVED OF COMMAND
Major General George Weightman was "relieved" of his command at the Walter Reed Medical Hospital. I'm sure the patients and their families are relieved as well. It boggles my mind to think that the brave men and women that serve this country in the military aren't privie to the very best, the very best, medical attention available in this country. They deserve our best.

I'm glad that changes are being made, I still think that the outgoing general could have been required to help clean up the mold and kill the cockroaches before he left.

Spring Fever
I heard the birds singing this morning, the snow is melting and I am looking ahead to warmer weather. Spring is right around the corner. I want to get my bike out and check out the new section of the "Rails to Trails" bike path that goes from Frostburg to Cumberland (MD). The trail is beautiful and this section was just completed last fall. The nice part - its all down hill from Frostburg to Cumberland!

Wow! I just added the new song from the McKameys and it is wonderful. I enjoy the McKamey's
music. I must say that this song, "You're Still God" is one of the best
songs that they have ever done (and they have made a lot of excellent

Southern Gospel News- McRaes,First Love

The merger of two top Southern Gospel groups was announced today in Nashville. Troy and Katy Peach, of First Love, are teaming up with Annie McRae and Amanda Till, of The McRaes,.. to form one new super group. The new group's moniker will be: TK & McRAES.

This reporter spoke earlier today with representatives of BSA World Music, The Beckie Simmons Agency and Big 10 Entertainment.. as they gathered with group members for a meeting of the minds. The new "quartet".. even treated us to a little telephone a cappella singing. Beckie Simmons says: "I have known about this for a little while.. and just couldn't wait to share the good news!.. We are all very excited!"

Troy Peach told us that JP Miller,.. the third voice in First Love.. has decided to come off the road, for now, and focus his attention on family and other projects. Morgann McClanahan is also leaving her full time position with The McRaes.

TK & McRaes is expected to make a debut, on stage,.. Friday night (02/23) at the Columbia Exhibition Center in Columbia, Mississippi. A new project is in the works.. and should release in May. A single release is being recorded now and will ship to radio in very soon. The new single, produced by Mike Bowling, is an Annie McRae penned song called "When He Said Live"

Ivan Parker - First Soloist To Make Main Stage at NQC
During the annual NQC Board Meeting in Louisville , Kentucky , this week,.. board voted to invite Ivan Parker to perform on the Friday evening featured concerts. According to info from the NQC.. this is the first time in the history of the NQC that a soloist has been invited to perform on the main stage of the National Quartet Convention.

It is fitting that on the 50th anniversary of the NQC that this sort of history can be made. states NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley. Ivan Parker has distinguished himself as one of the most popular artists in all of Southern Gospel Music and he is certainly worthy of the distinction of the being the first soloist to be featured on the NQC main stage.

Parker was introduced to the world of gospel music as the lead singer for the
Singing Americans in 1982. In 1983, he joined Gold City where he became one of the most popular vocalists in all of Gospel Music. In 1994, Ivan launched a solo career and also joined the Bill Gaither Trio and later began touring with the popular Gaither Homecoming Tour.

In addition to Ivans performance on Friday night,.. the NQC is producing a segment which will commemorate the 50 year heritage of the National Quartet Convention. More details about this special presentation are forthcoming.

American Idol - First Cuts

Wow! I was surprised last night. I thought that Sundance and Alaina would be the first to go. Surprise, surprise, surprise! Another surprise, most of the contestants this year sound better than Fantasia. I just don't think that she's that good.

American Idol - The Ladies

American Idol is one of the few television shows that I will rearrange
my schedule (to some extent) to watch. Last night's show was the first
that showed this years 12 female finalists. In a nutshell - the ladies
blew the doors off of the men. The difference in talent was evident
from the first lady that took the stage to the final singer. I think
that it might not be to early to say that a woman will be the next
American Idol.

The last singer, Lakisha Jones, the mother of the
four year old, was fantastic. When she got to the end of the song there
was a slight pause. During this slight pause the audience wasabsolutely
quiet. She had their attention unlike any other singer. She got my vote
- after the phone lines started working. It seemed like they had a
technical problem.

My other favorites include: 17 year old Jordin Sparks, Leslie Hunt, Melinda Doolittle, and Sabrina Sloan.

Who leaves tonight? Alaina Alexander and Antonella Barba.

American Idol

Well it's American Idol time again. Last night was the beginning of the
"real" show. No more goofy people trying to get their 5 minutes of
fame. It's time for the talented to compete. It's time for Simon to
critique. It's time for "Yo! Check it out".... And after last night,
it's time for most of the guys to step it up.

I thought that
last nights program showed the most uninspiring talent that the show
has placed on the stage at one time. Most of the guys were BORING. No
life, no flair. Notable exceptions would be Blake Lewis from
Washington. He has charisma and actually sang with some spirit.

My preliminary picks from the guys would also include the curly haired guy, Chris Sligh,
the former back up singer, Brandon Rogers, and Phil Stacey (the last
one to sing that also did a good job on his song last night. He had the
worst 15 seconds of any singer at the beginning of his song but
finished very strong.)

Gone: Sundance and Rudy Cardenas. (Sanjaya Malakar will make it this week because of the teen girl votes.)

Gerald Crabb, "Poems, Prayers and Promises"

We're taking a listen to Gerald Crabb's new CD entitled, "Poems, Prayers and Promises" today. Gerald Crabb
is on of the great gospel song writers of our day and he doesn't
disappoint on this CD. The songs are captivating, encouraging and
diverse.

Gerald Crabb was born January 2, 1958 in Rosine, Kentucky (Rosine
is where the founder of Blue Grass music, Bill Monroe was born). He was
the only son in a family with four daughters. He first sang in public
at the age of five. By age 11 he had learned to play guitar and won 1st
place at a local talent contest. At age 12 he was makingappearances on a weekly country music television program, "Country Music Jubilee" out of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Gerald Crabb
was saved at the age of 16 at "Calvary Tabernacle Church" in Dan
Station, Kentucky. He preached his first sermon that same year. He haspastored seven churches.

Gerald Crabb wrote his first Gospel song on 1978, "It's Almost Time To Say Good-bye", which was later recorded by the Crabb Family and Christlike. The first professional group to record a Gerald Crabb
song was the Dalton Gang in 1985 when they recorded "Still, Small
Voice" which was later recorded by Ivan Parker and also Gold City.
GeraldCrabb has written 22 national number one songs.

"Prayers, Poems and Promises", has a distinctive Country flavor to it that you would expect from Gerald Crabb. The project was produced by Gerald Crabb and Bubba Smith. Gerald Crabb is backed by some of the finest musicians in Nashville on this project including David Johnson, Jason Webb and Dan Needham. Backing vocals are by Jason, Arron, and Adam Crabb, Terah Penhollow, Josh Franks, Tracy Stuffle, Libby (Perry) Stuffle, Joyce Martin, Chris Freeman and Sheri Easter.

If
you enjoy good Southern Gospel music with a country flair then you will
enjoy this CD. Unlike most Christian Country music that is poorly
recorded and poorly performed this project meets a highquality standard
all around. If more Christian Country artists would meet the standards
set forth on this CD the industry would grow by leaps and bounds. My
personal favorites are "Can't Sing The Blues No More", "God'sGettin' Ready", "If That Mountain Don't Move" and "Hold On". It's a very good CD.

New Southern Gospel Music

I added some wonderful new Southern Gospel music to the line up
yesterday. My favorite song, after a few listens, is the Southern
Brothers', "Run to Win". This is the first song from the Southern
Brothers in a number of years and it's nice to have them back.

Another
song that I really enjoy is the Dixie Echoes doing the classic gospel
song, "If Jesus Is There". They do a great job on this song with
wonderful harmonies.

The New Life Trio released a song entitled,
"The Rock" that is fantastic. The lyrics are wonderful and they deliver
it in style. It is a well done song that will touch your heart this
Easter season.

Crabb Family Concert

What a great night of music and ministry it was with the Crabb Family at the Central Assembly of God in Cumberland Saturday night. The Crabb family has such a heart for reaching people and it is evident in the way they bring the message both through song and word.

I think that my favorite part of the evening was when Jason Crabb
invited Pam Seaman on stage to sing. I have heard Pam sing many times.
Indeed we play her music on the He's Alive Radio Network during Worship
180 and Evening Reflections. She has a great voice.

It is always nice to see a major act invite a local talent to share the stage with them. The Crabb
Family took this a step further and asked her to sing one of their most
popular songs, "Through The Fire". They even did it a second time, at
Jason's prompting, in a key that Pam is comfortable singing in. It was
very good.

I enjoyed meeting everyone at the He's Alive Radio table. It was exciting to be able to introduce people to our radio station that had never listened before.

After the concert was over and everyone left I had a chance to talk with Jason Crabb
for several minutes. They were heading out that night to the Brooklyn
Tabernacle where they were scheduled the next day. Jason, who appears
so confident on stage, who nevershys away from a conversation, said
that of all the places that they sing, the Brooklyn Tabernacle makes
him the most apprehensive. He said they playin front of much larger crowds, but he has such a high regard for Pastor Cymbala and the church that he gets "butterflies" before they sing there.

Jason
also talked about the upcoming project that they are working on. He
promised it would be "different" from what they have been doing but
that it wouldn't disappoint their current fans. I can't wait to hear it.

It was a great night of music and ministry. If you get a chance to attend a Crabb Family concert - go. You won't be disappointed.

Crabb Family this Saturday

I am getting excited about the Crabb Family concert this Saturday. It's at the Central Assembly of God in Cumberland, MD. The concert starts at 7PM. Get there early and stop by the He's Alive radio table. I'd like to meet you and I'll be giving away some free stuff.

If you have never seen the Crabb family live you need to be there. They are incredible. It is more than just uplifting and encouraging music. It is ministry. The past two times that I have seen the Crabb family they ministered to most of the audience one - on - one. The events lasted at least three hours.

make sure that you bring your family. The Crabbs play more than just traditional Southern Gospel music. They also do some wonderful versions of popular contemporary songs like "Shout To The Lord", "I Am A Friend Of God" and "Redeemer". There is something for everyone.

It's going to be a great night. I hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Amanda and Aaron Crabb on the birth of their daughter yesterday. Her name is Eva Lyn Crabb. She and Amanda are doing fine!

SuperBowl reflections

My Thoughts on the Super Bowl.
Well the Super Bowl is behind us and all that's let of the NFL season is the Pro Bowl. I thought that the game was rather exciting. The opening kickoff return sort of evened things out. The Bears were in the game until the last quarter but an inexperienced QB let them down.

I thought that the MVP should have gone to the Colts running back Rhodes or the entire Colts defense. The D really shut the Bears down. Manning did well but it wasn't his best game.

As far as the commercials...I think I am going to switch all of my accounts away from GoDaddy.com their commercials are totally tasteless. I'll pay the extra dollar or two a year just to take my business elsewhere. The commercials weren't overly funny or great this year. It was nice to see Ford shell out the mega millions to promote their new huge pickup after losing $20,000,000,000.00 last quarter. What's a few million dollars ad money when you're looking at a number like 20 billion dollars?

Prince - he did alright. He keep it basically clean. He did a great job on the Bob Dylan song, "All Along The Watch Tower". How did they get the lightning strike to fire at the start of his performance? Incredible. The man hasn't aged in 30 years.

Billy Joel singing the National Anthem..... I think that he would have had a hard time making it on American Idol with that performance.

Overall - it was a fun game. The Bears kept it interesting until the end. My favorite part of the night - my wife's lasagna!

Week 1 - The Super Bowl

It looks like Peyton Manning and the Colts are going to duke it out with the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl this year. It should be a good game. Who do I think will win? As my Steelers are not playing in the big game, whoever wins is secondary to the game and the hype around it.

I am looking forward to reading all the stories about how Manning "finally made it to the big game." I want to read how the Bears defense is so good that nothing can stop them. I like the hype. I enjoy the circus that is Super Bowl week in America. It is one week that a vast majority of Americans will get together and be united., even if it is just for a football game.

One story that I hope the media picks up on is that both head coaches are Christians that are not ashamed of the Gospel. I hope to see this brought out and these two made a role model of. One thing that I don't want to see is Prince, if that's his name now, have a wardrobe malfunction. I'll probably skip the half time show.

So with all this said, what is your opinion on Super Bowl Hype? Is it to much? Should they just play the game the week after the conference games? Do you enjoy it?

King of The Mountain Winner Week 1

Today was week one of King of the Mountain. The two songs that competed for your votes were: Sharon Kay King's, "You Never Gave Up On Me" and the Whisnants', "A Greater Yes". The winner this week by only three votes is Sharon Kay King and "You Never Gave Up On Me".

Sharon Kay King's latest project is entitled, "The Road I know". Sharon was saved in 1987 and completely set free and delivered from over 13 years of drug and alcohol addiction. Her desire to "do something for the Lord" led her to begin singing in the church choir.

Sharon attempted to play the guitar but soon became discouraged at her inability to play to a level that she desired. She laid the guitar down for two years. One day as she was passing the closet where the guitar was stored she heard that still , small voice telling her to "pick it back up". She turned to see who had said this but saw no one but again heard, "pick it back up". So she picked up the guitar and to her surprise began to play music.

Sharon Kay King's song, "You Never Gave Up On Me" is crowned the reining "Queen of the Mountain" and will be challenged next week at 7:20 am by a new song to determine if she will remain the Queen of the Hill.

Favorite Southern Gospel Song of All Time

What is Your Favorite Southern Gospel Song of All Time?

I was checking my email and someone had asked what the top three songs of last year were. I stared at the computer with all of the different song titles and wondered what I would consider the best songs of all time. After careful thought I would have to say that my top three favorite Southern Gospel Songs are:

1.) Gold City, "Midnight Cry". There is just something about Ivan Parker's voice on this song that brings it home.

2.) Crabb Family, "That Ain't No Mountain". This song just encourages me each and every time that I hear it.

3.) JD Sumner and the Stamps, "You've Got To Walk That Lonesome Road". Just a personal favorite. I dream of singing that low. Ha!

Honorable mentions (read: he can't really narrow it down to three)
a) Florida Boys, "When He Was on The Cross". A song that never goes out of style.

b)McKameys, "God on the Mountain". One of my favorite sing-along-to songs. Yeah - I do a pretty good Peg McKamey . Hahaha...

c) Dove Brothers, "Didn't It Rain". So fun.

d) The Rambos, "I Go To The Rock". This song sounds good even when I sing it!

e) Jimmy Swaggert, "Never Been This Homesick Before". Great piano, great vocals, great song. Probably the most requested song last year.

It Looks Like Jack is Back

I don't watch a lot of TV. Mainly football and an occassional movie. One exception is the TV show, "24". I've been waiting since May for this series to resume and it hasn't disappointed. If you have never watched the show it is like a high powered, action packed, realistic version of James Bond but oh so much better.

If you are familiar with the show....I can't believe that Curtis is gone! That's one thing about this show - they don't hesitate to get rid of characters. I liked Curtis, he was a good man. I'm not sure about this President. He's a little wishy-washy.

This show is so intense it is only a matter of time until the media hype it as helping to raise tensions against people of a certian background. I hope it doesn't come to that.

My six year old daughter was in the room when Jack was doubting if he could continue. I lamented out loud, "You can't quit Jack" and my daughter asked, "If he quits, will it be 23?". Oh, from the mouths of babes......

Crabb Family Concert

Wow! What a night. The Crabb Family showed why they are the best Gospel group on the road right now. They packed the house at the Hyndman Ministry Center last night. The show started at 7:00 and ended about 10:30. The Crabb family took time to minister to everyone that came forward. They really showed that they have a heart for ministry even moreso than for music if that's possible.

I still think that Jason looks like a young Paul McCartney with the beard. I got a chuckle out of Adam Crabbs little 9 month old son playing in a large cardboard box while his mom worked the product table. Kids are funny.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Crabb family come back through the are next month at the Central Assembly of God Church in Cumberland. I'll keep you informed.

Susan Whisnant to Release Solo Project

Susan Whisnant, one of the top female singers in Southern Gospel music, is set to release a new solo project. She told me during our recent conversation that the new solo project will be a "little different" then what we are used to. "Kind of like the Carpenters, but with a Southern edge", is how she described it to me.

I asked her if this indicated a possble solo career and she said absolutely not. "I do alot of women's conferences" she said, "This project is will help in that ministry as well as provide some great songs for everyone." She also did this because she had some songs that she wanted to sing that just didn't quite fit in with what the Whisnants do.

The New Mike and Kelly Bowling

Mike and Kelly Bowling Announce a New Name.....

This just in.....

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn--Mike and Kelly Bowling, formerly known as the Mike Bowling Group, officially announced their name change and the addition of Jeff Snyder as their newest member this week. Mike and Kelly are no strangers to Gospel music. With a combined total of 11 Dove Awards, three Grammy nominations and lending their voices to over 20 number one songs, this husband and wife team are destined to remain a mainstay in the Southern Gospel industry. The announcement was made on the heels of Mike's wife, Kelly Bowling joining the group full time.

The newest member, Jeff Snyder of Owensboro, KY native has been filling the tenor position since November. Jeff is a graduate of Kentucky Mountain Bible College with a degree in Theology and has studied music at God's Bible College.

"It is awesome to be a part of a ministry that shares the same values and goals. I feel like God has placed me in a position where He can use me in a way like never before," commented Jeff.

Crabb Family Making a Surprise Stop

I just got off of the telephone with Pastor Stevie Leydig from the Hyndman Ministry Center and the Crabb Family is going to be stopping by this coming Sunday, January 14th at 7:00pm. It is going to be fantastic! They were there this past summer and sang and ministered for almost four 1/2 hours - it was tremendous!

I will be there and I hope that you can make it as well. Give them a call at 814-767-9100. This is the last year that the Crabb family will be touring together and might be your last chance to see them in this area.

Blessings For the New Year

First - Wow! Hard to believe that Bill Cowher is stepping down as the coach for the Steelers. He will be missed. He was always fun to watch on the sidelines and did a great jon. May God continue to bless you coach Cowher.

Blessings For The New Year
As you may know we are sending out a fantastic book mark/card with your offering of any size in January. It was written by Dianne Bundt and is a wonderful card filled with scripture and prayer to start the New Year out right and to give you strength and encouragement throughout the New Year.

As I was reading over the card this morning one of the prayers really spoke to me. It is the one entitled, "Great Ideas". The prayer reads in part, " May you receive fresh insight to meet the challenges of each day and discover creative solutions to your problems."

Sometimes it seems that we face a reoccurring problem. Again and again we apply the same solution to the problem and get the same results and in a short time we are facing the problem again. Around and around the mountain we go.

God is the giver of wisdom. Proverbs 2:6 reads, "For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding". How wonderful it is to know that we can ask our Father for wisdom in dealing with the concerns of life and He will give it too us. We ask, we listen and He speaks to us. It might be a new way to deal with your crisis. It might seem a little odd (how odd was it to march around the walls of Jericho? ), but God will give you fresh ideas. Be encouraged as God loves you. He's for you and not against you. May this me the year that you receive fresh insight into your problems and gain victory!
